Using up your fabric scraps
If your scrap bag keeps growing faster than you can use it, here's a project that actually makes a dent.
Dear friend,
If you've got a bag of fabric scraps you can't bring yourself to throw out — the ribbon ends, the oddments of lace, the little squares of shiny mesh that feel too good to bin — this one is for you.
The idea is straightforward: draw a shape on plain paper, layer your scraps across it, sew or glue everything down, back it with card stock, and finish the edges with ink. Circles, hearts, butterflies, mushrooms, trees, tags — the shape almost doesn't matter. What you end up with is a finished embellishment, ready to go onto a journal cover or tuck into a page. No die cuts, no special tools beyond what most crafters already have.
What I love about this project — and why I keep coming back to it — is what happens when you lay fifteen finished pieces out side by side. A deep red circle in a single rich fabric reads completely differently from a boho layered heart with gold and lace, even though the technique behind them is exactly the same. The character comes entirely from what's in your scrap box. Which means every time you sit down, it's a different result.
If you'd like to make some of your own, here's the whole thing — start to finish.

That's what makes this one of those projects that doesn't really end — you make a piece, you trim your fabrics, you make more scraps, and there's another reason to sit back down. I hope it gives your scrap bag somewhere to go.
