Quick journals from 12x12 paper
Those of us who can't resist a pretty sheet of scrapbook paper — here's what to do with it.
Dear friend,
Those of us who can't resist a pretty sheet of scrapbook paper know the particular guilt of a stash that just sits there. Beautiful things, bought with the best intentions, waiting for a project worthy of them.
This is that project. One 12×12 sheet becomes a complete little pocket journal — reinforced edges, a bound signature, and a spine that holds its shape. The construction is genuinely quick once you've done it once: a few scored lines, some careful corner trimming, a round of folding and gluing. What takes time is the good part. Choosing the paper. Deciding what goes on the cover. Working out whether this one gets a layered pocket, a fold-out panel, or a booklet tucked inside.
I make these in small sets — two or three at a time, each with a different cover treatment — and that's when they really come into their own, whether you're putting together a gift or filling a craft fair table. The base construction is the same every time; what changes is everything on top of it. I show six different directions in the video, and honestly it barely scratches the surface.
If you'd like to make one of your own, here's the whole thing — start to finish.

Once you have that base solid, the covers become an ongoing experiment — and a genuinely absorbing one. I hope you find a sheet in your stash that's been waiting for exactly this.
